OVERVIEW

At OSEC, our House System is a cornerstone of school culture, designed to build connection, celebrate achievement, and foster a strong sense of belonging for every student.

All students and staff are sorted into one of five distinct Houses, each with its own unique heritage, character traits, and connection to our ORCA core values: ownership, respect, collaboration, acceptance, and service. From the moment students join OSEC, they become part of a smaller “family” within our larger school community.

Throughout the year, students earn points for their houses by demonstrating core values, participating in school events, and achieving success both inside and outside the classroom. Houses also take part in friendly competitions, collaborative challenges, and service opportunities that encourage teamwork and school pride. Points are tracked in real time through our behavior management system LiveSchool, allowing families to stay connected to their student’s progress.

A key component of the House System is our monthly House Meetings. These gatherings are designed to strengthen community, build leadership, and promote school spirit. During this time, students celebrate accomplishments, participate in team-building activities, collaborate on service projects, and set goals aligned with their house values. House Meetings also create meaningful opportunities for cross-grade connections, helping students build lasting relationships within their house family while supporting social-emotional growth.

The House System promotes positive relationships across grade levels, encourages mentorship, and creates opportunities for every student to feel seen, valued, and celebrated. Inspired by longstanding educational traditions and adapted for our unique community, it helps transform our school into a place where every student belongs.

House of Benele – Fellowship & Discovery (Explorers) The House of Benele is rooted in kindness, acceptance, and the belief that everyone is enough. Its members cultivate compassion, patience, and a deep sense of belonging, creating a nurturing and inclusive community. Benele explorers grow through connection and empathy, inspiring others while embracing their own potential to lead with heart and understanding.		House of Kawauso – Curiosity & Innovation (Innovators) The House of Kawauso celebrates curiosity, creativity, and ownership of one’s journey. Inspired by the playful and resourceful otter, its members embrace exploration, think boldly, and approach challenges with imagination. In a supportive, family-like environment, Kawauso innovators are empowered to shape the future through discovery, collaboration, and original thinking.		House of Samaan – Unity & Integrity (Navigators) The House of Samaan embodies harmony, collaboration, and balance. Focused on the strength of community, its members learn to value both individual contributions and collective success. Through empathy, teamwork, and integrity, Samaan navigators foster inclusive environments where unity thrives and meaningful connections drive shared achievement.		House of Amauta – Wisdom & Leadership (Scholars) The House of Amauta represents wisdom, mastery, and service-driven leadership. Inspired by the revered Incan teachers, its members strive for excellence through knowledge, thoughtful decision-making, and a commitment to guiding others. Rooted in intellectual curiosity and perseverance, Amauta scholars rise to challenges with insight and purpose, leading their communities with integrity and vision.		House of Kahramanlar – Courage & Loyalty (Pathfinders) The House of Kahramanlar stands for courage, resilience, and unwavering loyalty. Its members are driven to face challenges with confidence, act with independence, and uphold strong principles. With a deep respect for others and a commitment to community, Kahramanlar pathfinders lead with bravery and integrity, forging their own paths while lifting those around them.

MONTHLY HOUSE MEETINGS

Each House gathers monthly for a dedicated House Meeting. During these celebrations, students practice and reflect on the character trait of the month, recognize House achievements, participate in social-emotional learning activities, and strengthen connections with students across grade levels. Students are also invited to wear their House colors to show House pride.

HOUSE LEADERSHIP COUNCIL (HLC)

The House Leadership Council gives students an authentic voice in shaping House traditions and activities. Students campaign and are elected by their fellow House members to serve in leadership positions such as President, Vice President, Representative, and other roles. Council members meet regularly to discuss House initiatives, plan events, and represent the interests of their House community.

HOUSE CUP HALL OF FAME

Students earn House points through LiveSchool by demonstrating positive behavior, leadership, responsibility, and our ORCA values. Every commendation point earned by a student contributes to their House's total score. At the end of each House Cup season, the House with the highest cumulative point total across grades K–8 earns the House Cup and schoolwide recognition.
